The Australian Dental Association (ADA), established on 19 June 1928, is a professional membership organisation representing more than 85% of Australian dentists. The primary objectives of the ADA are to advance and promote the ethics, art and science of dentistry, and to support its members to enhance their ability to provide safe, high quality professional care. There are Branches of the Association in each state and territory, with the exception of the ACT which is governed by the NSW Branch. Membership is voluntary and offers dentists a voice for their profession, a range of professional services, and education. Members are expected to practice in accordance with standards laid down by the Association. The ADA is active in oral health promotion including Dental Health Week, World Oral Health Day, and a range of campaigns focusing on preventative oral health; such as mouthguard awareness, oral health for babies and toddlers, and the dangers of teeth whitening by untrained professionals.
